Gia

Cats: Unknown with cats
Dogs: Good with other dogs
Children: Unknown with children

Update 11/24/19

Gia is coming out of her shell. She loves the ladies and wants to sit on your lap for attention. Don't let her age fool you, she can keep up with the best of them. However, when she is finished she walks away and awaits to return to her shelter. She has such a calm demeanor. We would love to see her get her forever home.

Update 1/19/20

Gia has made tremendous gains since she has been with us. When she came to us, she had a seizure which we believe was triggered by stress. She would cower in the back of her kennel and would not move forward, regardless of if she were familiar with you or not. She would not eat while you were watching, nor would she take a treat from you and eat it. She would shy away from human contact and took longer to warm up to men. Today, Gia has not had another seizure, comes to the front of her kennel in anticipation of play time. She has a playful bounce in her step and gets along with other dogs. She has been initiating back scratches and rubs consistently. She is eating better, walking beautifully on the leash, enjoys exploring the world around her and has gotten better at meeting new people. She has learned to enjoy getting treats and is now taking them and eating them from your hand. The only thing that is missing is a forever home for her.

Added 10/2019

Gia is a 7 year old black female with natural ears.  She was reported to have seizures which are related to her stress levels. She is a fearful dog and takes her time to get used to new people and new situations. Her anxiety is apparent as she shivers when she is uncomfortable. Gia needs some practice walking on leash but when she is comfortable with the human on the other end of the leash she seems to do better. The longer that she has been with us, the more we are seeing her relax. She has met a dog or two and as long as they are respecting her space she is fine with them. She takes her time meeting new people and becoming comfortable with them. She is crate trained. Gia will need a super patience and experienced human to give her the home when she can thrive without fear. Is your home that home? Gia came to MAGDRL in October 2019. (2)

Dutchess

Cats: Unknown with cats
Dogs: Unknown with other dogs
Children: Unknown with children

Update 7/20/20 - Dutchess continues to be a charmer in her foster home.  She is wonderful when meeting new people, especially kids.  She is a love bug and readily gives kisses.  She absolutely adores people and happily greets her foster family when they come home.  Dutchess is a true Velcro Dane.  She walks well with a head halter and quickly responds to commands.  Do not let her age fool you as she is very quick to spot and chase squirrels in the yard.  She needs to be comforted with the loud noises of fireworks and thunderstorms.  Dutchess is so awesome.  Do you have room in your life for her?

Update 1/19/20 - Dutchess is a super friendly, senior girl who walks beautifully on leash. She enjoys going for walks and is comfortable in new surroundings as well as meeting new people. She loves treats and has lost some weight as she needed to slim down to a healthier weight. She loves being around people and prefers that over being left alone. With proper introduction, she gets along with other dogs; really enjoys human contact and is quite affectionate. She came to us with Titan and we would be thrilled if they could go as a pair but if that isn’t in the cards, she would do just fine with an attentive family available to give her the love that she craves.

Added 11/2019

Dutchess is an 8 year old female Dane mix who came back to us from sad circumstances. She and her "brother" Titan were adopted through MAGDRL a few years ago and recently returned to MAGDRL because their owners have passed away. She was a bit stressed initially when she came to us but with time to decompress we are seeing the true loving dog that she actually is. Dutchess is the more confident of the two and the more vocal. She sometimes takes a bit longer to warm up to strangers but lately she has done quite nicely. She is a healthy senior that needs to slim down a bit as she is carrying a few extra pounds. She responds well to treats and enjoys human contact. She does fairly well on leash but could always use more practice. She is unknown with cats and we will be introducing her to other dogs soon. Even though she lived with Titan we want to get a fell for how she meets other dogs that are unknown to her. Dutchess, when she is comfortable, is a loving and easy going senior Dane who just needs a family to love her. Dutchess came to MAGDRL in November 2019. (2)

Duke 2

Cats: Not good with cats
Dogs: Good with other dogs
Children: 12+ years old

Update 1/19/20 - Duke is a big energetic fawn boy who has made so much progress since the day he came into rescue. Everything about him is big. He has a big head, and big voice which he is not afraid to use, and he has a super big heart. Duke is very alert and aware of everyone and everything around him. He is very curious and sometimes unsure, so he needs consistent guidance and reassurance when encountering new things. He is inquisitive and needs a strong leader. Duke does best with a consistent predictable routine and schedule; we feel like he could do well in many situations but a quiet environment with not much going on would be best. He has lived with other dogs and we have successfully introduced him to balanced dogs. Dogs with poor social skills may take a bit longer to introduce. Duke learns quickly and is extremely food motivated so getting him to learn your routine should be fairly simple. One thing that he needs some work with is his barrier frustration as he can be very vocal and exuberant. Duke is very affectionate, especially when he has gotten to know you so he would be a great couch companion when you are home winding down from a long day.

Added 10/2019

Duke is a 3 year old fawn mail with natural ears. Duke is a large and very energetic boy who has a lot to say, and with his booming voice, he shakes the walls! He has lots of energy and needs an outlet to burn off that energy. Duke needs training and a training contract will be required to make sure he gets a good start in his new home. He has lots of excitement when meeting new people as he tends to jump and bounce with excitement. Even though this can appear intimidating, he is not aggressive. He has not met any dogs while in rescue yet as we need to get some of his excitement under control. He did live with a dachshund and a female Dane in his previous home. He cannot be placed with cats. He has lived with kids of all ages, the youngest being 5 years of age. We suggest due to his exuberance no children under the age of 12+. Duke will require an experienced and strong owner to give him guidance and structure. This boy is a real diamond in the ruff. In the right home he will flourish. Do you have that home? Duke came to MAGDRL in October 2019. (2)

Little Boy Blue

Cats: Good with cats
Dogs: Good with dogs
Children: 9+ years old

Update 4/28/19 - After two weeks Blue is starting to show us his love of life playful side. Blue likes walks in the park, fetching a ball for a little time then he lets you throw it, and lay down for those belly rubs. There isn't a dog that he has met that he hasn't liked. He will be neutered on May 8th, and then will be ready for his forever home. Do you have room for a true dane who would love a home to call his own?

Added 4/2019: Little Boy Blue is a 2 year old black male with natural ears who came to rescue from a shelter. Don't let his name fool you, there is nothing little about this boy! He is around 150 pounds, and is house trained and crate trained. Blue is slow to warm up to strangers, however if you give him time and let him feel comfortable with you, he will be yours for ever. Blue loves to give kisses and get belly rubs. He loves car rids and walks. He is good with other dogs and cats, however he is not comfortable with children under 8 years of age. Blue is looking for a family to provide him a stable, consistent and loving home. Might your home be that home? Little Boy Blue came to MAGDRL in April 2019. (2)

Jada

Cats: Unknown with cats
Dogs: Unknown with dogs
Children: Unknown with children

Jaida is a Rescue In Need and is currently not available for adoption.

Update 4/28/19 - Jaida is growing quickly, and is surprising everyone with her recovery. Jaida loves meeting people and other dogs. Her physical therapy is going well and her veterinarians feel that she can, while in the house, go without the Medi Paw brace; however when she is around other dogs she needs it as the reminder that it gives her about where to place her seems to really help.

Update 3/23/19 - Jaida is doing very well in her foster home. She is playful, active and has a ravenous appetite. She is doing physical therapy both at home and the vet's office. Jaida continues to knuckle her hind right paw and now wears a Medi Paw boot to protect her foot. She is currently off medication, however, she is receiving glucosamine supplements. She no longer shows signs of pneumonia. We are optimistic that this has been resolved. Her right hind limb appears to be improving. She will need to continue rehabilitation and care to maximize function in this limb. When she is walking we need to help her to go slowly to be able to place her paw with every step. She will need to remain with the Medi Paw boot to prevent farther damage to her skin. We are beginning to socialize her with other dogs and people to prevent behavioral issues in the future.

Added 2/19 - Meet Jaida. She came to us in early February and has found herself hospitalized and fighting for her life. It is unclear what has happened to her, but it is clear that we have to help her. She is just 9 weeks old and currently in great distress due to multiple health issues. She has fought through fevers, pneumonia, and low blood count but an infection in her hip and leg could potentially cause her to lose that leg. She has been hospitalized in the ICU on IV antibiotics and oxygen for several days now, and the vet staff have been working tirelessly to resolve all her health concerns. She had one surgery to drain the abscess and infection in her leg, she may need more. Progress has been slow. Jaida is extremely adorable and even though she has had good days and not so great days; she has shown that she is a fighter. We are doing all that we can to provide her with the care that she needs. Jaida came to MAGDRL in February 2019. (2)

Dogs: Good with other dogs
Children: Unknown with children

Diamond is current on medical hold and is not currently available for adoption

Update 12/16/18 - Unfortunately Diamond is heart worm positive, so she is now on medical hold until she can be treated.

Diamond is a 7 1/2 year old mantle female with natural ears. Unfortunately just as Diamond came into rescue, she came into heat, so she will be on hold until she can be spayed. Diamond is just that… a perfect Diamond! She loves having her belly rubbed and her ears scratched. She could snuggle for hours, laying her head on your lap. Diamond is good with other dogs, and has been fine with the cats in her foster home. She is unknown with children. Diamond would love a nice, quiet home where she could be a couch potato. Diamond came to MAGDRL in October 2018. (2)

Benson

Cats: Unknown with cats
Dogs: Good with large dogs
Children: Unknown with children

Benson is a 2 1/2 year old black male with natural ears. Yup, that is me looking out of the rear deck window of my new foster home. I'm a pretty handsome guy, right? So, here is a little information about me. First, my good traits. I am very curious about everything and I need to know what is going on all around me at all times. I will definitely let you know if there is someone in your yard or coming into your house. I am very faithful, and want to be with you all the time. I am really good looking, intelligent and an affectionate guy. When you sit down, I love to come over and put my head on your arm or your shoulder or sit on your lap. I love to play, but when it is bedtime, I want to be close to you and snuggle. I love to go places, love to be walked, and am good at both. I get along very well with my foster brothers and sister, two senior Danes and a Pit Bull. I play well with others, but I can get very excitable at times and just need a little reminder when I go over the top. I will cease my behavior when asked. I love to be praised and am thrilled when I am told I am a good boy. Now for other things that I need work on. I love to 'counter surf'. I will put my front paws up on the counter and scout for whatever goodies that you left for me. I have some separation anxiety, I hate being left alone. I walk into the crate when you take me there before you leave, however, I try to escape when you are gone. I also like to bark when I am left in the crate. However, I will stop barking when told "no bark". I am trying to learn to relax when I am in the crate. Having company on the outside of the crate sure does help and is comforting. My older foster Dane brother presently stays with me, so it is bearable. I do need to be reminded not to bark at times though. So, if you would like to have a very handsome, intelligent, faithful Dane, then I'm the dog for you. Benson came to MAGDRL in March 2019. (2)

Anibus

Cats: Good with cats
Dogs: Good with other dogs
Children: Good with children

Anibus is currently on medical hold and not available for adoption.

Anibus is a 5 year old black male with natural ears who came to MAGDRL from a private rescuer. Unfortunately he is heartworm positive as well some other health issues. He will not be available for 4-6 months while he is going through treatment. Anibus is excellent with his humans; he loves snuggles and is a typical Dane leaner. We had originally been told that he is dog selective, however in his foster home his foster mom states that her biggest challenge is to keep him from trying to play with her pack. He is disinterested in the cats and the pot belly pig in the home. He is a very sweet boy who really wants to be with everyone. Anibus came to MAGDRL in December 2017. (2)

Patches

Cats: Good with cats
Dogs: Good with other dogs
Children: Good with children

Patches is currently on medical hold and not available for adoption.

Patches is a 4 year petite merle with natural ears who came into rescue via a shelter because her owner has health issues. She is a true Velcro Dane - loves to be with her humans. She is good in the car. Patches loves long walks however she pulls and needs to be reminded to heel. Her only real flaw is she is a gate opener so you will need to make sure your gate is locked. Patches gets along well with other dogs, and has lived with cats. She has also lived with children of all ages. Unfortunately Patches picked up an upper respiratory infection while at the shelter, so she will not be available for adoption until she is over that. Patches came to MAGDRL in September 2017. (2)

Cleo

Cats: Good with cats
Dogs: Good with other dogs
Children: 6+ years old

Cleo is a 14 month old black female with natural ears who came to us from a private rescuer.  Unfortunately Cleo is heartworm positive, so she will not be available for adoption for a minimum of 2-3 months. Cleo is good with cats and has lived with other dogs and birds and is great with both. She has also lived with children 6 years old and older. She is a sweet girl who loves any people she meets, loves to lean on people, and loves to snuggle. She has very little in the way of manner, which her foster home will be working on. Cleo's adopters will have to put her through a positive reinforcement training class as a condition of her adoption. Cleo came to MAGDRL in August 2017. (2)
